Foreword: The blog is online!

There it is: the brand-new blog of the Technik Museum Sinsheim Speyer. New? When hearing the word “blog”, the first thing that comes to mind is the beginning of the World Wide Web, when everything still seemed pretty new, websites were designed in a colourful way and nearly every sentence had to end with an animated GIF . The museum team invested in the new medium “internet” quite early so that the museum was already represented by an own website at the beginning of the 90s. Since then, a lot has changed: Social networks such as Facebook were invented and we have been able to reach thousands of fans via this new medium. No one would have ever thought that we would start with something as “old-fashioned” as a blog in the year 2018.

So, why did we choose a blog? It has always been a great pleasure for us to tell stories about our museum and to share parts of the museum life with our fans, members and visitors. Up until now, we have been doing that only via social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. However, it is not possible to reach everyone via one channel only, e.g. only via Facebook. Over the years, we have worked hard to reach over 100,000 fans on Facebook, but the platform nowadays only shows our posts to a mere fraction of our fans. That is why we decided to go back to a more “classic” medium in order to continue reaching all of our fans – but don’t worry, our Facebook page will still be active!

What can the readers expect from this blog? From time to time, we will publish reports – written by some of the museum's members and staff – that describe their exhibits or that give an insight into the events happening at the Technik Museen Sinsheim Speyer. We will begin with a story called How we got the Tupolev Tu-144 written by the President of the museum Hermann Layher. As a general rule, all of the authors can tell their stories in their own way, possible spelling errors are there for the readers’ amewsemon, and, due to the artistic freedom, exaggerations are allowed.

In the following weeks and months, we will irregularly publish more stories. In order to keep updated, we recommend to subscribe to our e-Mail newsletter (Indeed, another “old-fashioned” medium!). At the end of each newsletter, we will list the new articles published in the blog.

Happy reading to all of our fans!
